Two years ago, Bryan Fleegel started writing Jack and the Caterpillar, the first book in the Adventures of Jack series. The book was inspired by a bedtime story that Bryan told his son, Jack. “This story, for once; he wasn’t just listening - he was captivated. His eyes lit up with wonder, and in that moment, I knew this story held a special kind of magic. It could be something truly extraordinary.” From there, the journey of self-publishing a children's book began.
Hundreds of thousands of children’s books in the US are published each year. But Bryan set out to write a different kind of story. “What makes this book different is two things: the story about friendship, adventure, and helping one another is relatable to many ages. Second, the illustrations in Jack and the Caterpillar are world-class, and illustrations like this help develop the imagination in the young audience.”
“The Author part of my life is very part-time. I work full-time as the Vice President of Administration & Business Operations for Loffler Companies. I also work part-time for CBS Sports on the broadcast crew for PGA Tour events such as the 3M Open, WM Phoenix Open, and The Masters. The most exciting part about being an author is having something I created out in the world for people to enjoy. It’s so rewarding to have something you’re proud of - something that makes children happy and sells successfully. On the flip side, the most challenging part of being an author is marketing the book and myself. I’m grateful to have my wife, Tanya, in my corner, who has helped and supported this aspect of the adventure.”
“In both my part-time and full-time endeavors, Central MN has proved to be a great place to build a business and a career. A few years ago, I built a company called Optimum Communications into a multi-faceted business technology company that I sold to Loffler Companies in 2018 (where I continue to work). Central MN was my customer base and community. Central MN is big enough to build a great business and small enough to see your clients at your local church, restaurant, or activity. Its perfect size helps professionals develop deeper connections that extend beyond the office and into each other's personal lives.”
You can find copies of Jack and the Caterpillar locally at the St. John’s and St. Ben’s campus bookstores, along with WR Littles in St. Joseph. “I’d love for everyone to buy the book for a little one in their life! It’s a story of friendship and adventure – and is great as a bedtime story or for a young reader! In addition to the local shops carrying my book, you can find it online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Walmart. If you purchase a book, PLEASE write an honest review; reviews help with product engagement and improve the book's status in the algorithms that drive online sales.”
Jack and the Caterpillar is just the first adventure; this book is part of a larger series called The Adventures of Jack. Stay tuned for more to come in 2025!
