Dueling Brews

Dueling Brews was born from the thought that Becker needed a coffee shop. Not just a coffee shop, but also a place for the community to meet and visit, as well as for folks to work on their computers for hours. Since coffee shops tend to be quieter in the evenings, they decided to utilize the space and have a bar. This ‘small’ idea has expanded into what is now a full bar. Coffee, beer … dueling brews!

Jessica Treptau is the owner of Dueling Brews, but partners with her sister-in-law for the boutique attached to the space, called Brewtique. “Supporting local businesses is super important to me, particularly youth sports groups. I’m trying to do what I can as a start-up business and hope to be able to do more. Small towns, small communities tend to support and root for each other. I feel that support tremendously and enjoy being super transparent with what is going great as well as some of our "oopsy daisies". I enjoy using humor as well. I love Becker specifically. There's nowhere else I'd rather be.”

“The biggest challenge here is figuring out how to combine coffee shop service with the restaurant/bar service …  when to serve tables and when customers should come to the counter to order. Plus, folks can get confused when they walk in. We try to have all of our staff watch for those who may not know what to do to help direct them. Right now, people are supposed to order at the coffee or bar counters on weekdays until 5 pm. The rest of the time they can choose to order at the counters or sit down and wait for table service.”

“We have seating for about 100 people, with lots of standing room. We created a space in the back of Dueling Brews that can be reserved for parties. It works out GREAT for parties of 40 or less. We even block off a section of the bar that extends into that space for party use only. If the party is big enough, we'll even dedicate a bartender to your party! Dueling Brews is very family oriented. We have a separate kid's room with a TV and toys to keep the kiddos busy while the adults enjoy their food and beverages of choice.”

I work hard to make everything as great as possible but I need to know what isn't great to be able to work on it. And then...try us again!”

“I love seeing so many repeat customers and families enjoying their time here. I also enjoy seeing how much the kids like it here, especially the kid's room. Overall, I just like seeing my space being used for what I intended it to be.”
