Gnarly Bard Theater Company’s 2024/25 season kicks off this month with the first of four shows, "In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play," by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee Sarah Ruhl. “It is a beautiful show about an inventive doctor and his young wife. While his head is caught up in electricity and science, she languishes in the next room, feeling ignored and unseen in her marriage. Performances are the last two weekends of October. Tickets are on sale now, and season tickets are still available. If people are interested in our shows, they can sign up for our mailing list and like our Facebook page to learn about upcoming music and theater events in our space,” shared Bubba Hollenhorst.

Bubba is the Owner and Creative Director at Gnarly Bard (“GB”), as well as a musician, writer, composer, and performer. He has written or co-written all of GB's original shows to date. You will often find him at the theater, making sure everything is up and running. If you rent the space or attend a show, chances are you’ve crossed paths with him! Bubba is also the bandleader of the well-known Minnesota wedding and party band Fred Savage & the Unbeatables. His band has been performing for more than 20 years.

“We will be producing original musicals and shows (both musicals and straight plays) that we have purchased the rights to in our space. There are an endless number of thoughtful, interesting, and entertaining shows in the world and usually only a very small handful of them get produced. We plan to seek out many of those shows that would fit well in our space and produce things that match the taste and style of our company and company members.”

Along with their upcoming theater season, Bubba is also excited about being part of the downtown community. “So far, our neighbors have been great and reached out, as have a lot of people involved in the downtown community. The energy and desire to bring downtown back to life is clearly there from the businesses and folks downtown, but to really make downtown thrive, we need people to come out for dinner, shows, shopping, and be a part of the downtown scene with us.”

So, how can you support Gnarly Bard? “Buy season tickets. Buy tickets at all.  Grab your friends and convince them to come out for live entertainment for two hours every once in a while instead of watching streaming at home and not going out.” You can find more information on their website and Facebook page.
