The Used Furniture Store in East St. Cloud opened in 1990. They help quality furniture find a second home. “We believe every piece of furniture tells a story, and we’re here to help those stories continue. At The Used Furniture Store, we’re committed to giving new life to gently used items and reducing waste,” shared owner Zak Peterson.

Zak and his wife (and The Used Furniture Store Co-Owner), Jen, both grew up in Red Wing, MN, and graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1996. “We moved back to Red Wing after college, but in 2005 decided to move back because we had always liked the area,” explained Zak. “I was a part owner of Happy Sleeper in Waite Park from 2012 - 2024 and knew Mike, the original owner of the Used Furniture Store, through those channels. When he mentioned that he wanted to retire and sell, we jumped at it. This is my full-time gig, and Jen also comes in a few hours a week and handles social media posts. Our son Brandon works full-time doing sales, delivery, and is also our IT department."

“I don't think there are other businesses in Central MN that are at the same scale as ours. Some offer some furniture pieces, but not at the same level. We buy, sell, and sometimes trade living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, and sometimes outdoor furniture. Whether you have one piece or an entire house full of furniture, we work with you to make deals for it all. What we do is meaningful to us; being able to offer affordable options for people when it comes to furniture makes an impact, because buying brand new can be very expensive and out of reach for some folks.” 

The Used Furniture does good beyond extending the life of quality furniture; they also have great partnerships with local organizations. “We have a few organizations we work with to provide furniture and beds for those in need – Avivo, Tricap, Benton County, Lutheran Social Services, and SISU Living. We’re glad to help make a difference alongside our partners.” 

“I've heard many times from customers who come into the store, say that they didn't know we even existed.  We've been in business since 1990 (although not at our current location for the entire time), and we want people to know that we are a source they can use when they need to get rid of items that are too nice for the dump. Selling via Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace also works, but many people tell us that they've tried it, and not always with positive experiences. Let us help!”
