I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Caleb Lau, an Avon resident and community enthusiast, purchased and reopened The Scoop of Avon in 2025 and is scooping up sweet treats and smiles for everyone who steps into their shop.
“I transferred to Albany High School my sophomore year and moved here from the cities. I’ve stayed in the area ever since. I love the community of Avon and the town itself, so I’ve decided to stay here and help our community continue to flourish and be a great place for families, friends, and visitors,” shared Caleb.
“I helped run The Scoop when it opened originally in 2018; unfortunately, due to Covid, it closed in 2020 – but I’m so glad we’re back open and serving some of the best ice cream in the area. We make all our waffle cones in-house and try our hardest to have the absolute best customer service we can offer.”
In addition to owning and operating The Scoop of Avon, Caleb also owns a small motor shop in the area. “I try to split my time evenly between the two, and am grateful to have some great staff who make it possible. I have to shout out the amazing team I had at The Scoop this year. Everyone has worked so hard over the summer and was always willing to help out when needed. We just couldn’t have had as successful a summer as we did without all of them. Thank you, team!”
“The Scoop is such a fun job for me. I love meeting new people and having conversations with anyone who stops in. The Scoop gives me a unique opportunity to meet a lot of different people that I just wouldn’t have if it weren’t for this fun little ice cream shop. I really enjoy the happiness that ice cream brings people … whatever brings them into The Scoop, they’re happy when they have ice cream in their hands, and we get to be a part of that.”
“Avon is a smaller community, but big things are happening here too – and I know it takes all kinds of people to keep a community like ours growing, at its best, and happy. We had the opportunity to participate in the Avon parade this summer, and witnessing the happiness that having The Scoop of Avon open for business again brings to our friends and neighbors is truly amazing. We’re a small shop (located next to Subway), but we maximize the space whether you want to host a gathering, enjoy a treat with your family or friends, or stop by and take ice cream to go. I want to be able to make every experience at The Scoop as fun as it can be,” shared Caleb.
“Support your local businesses! Whether you want to try something new or you’re driving on I-94 going past Avon, we’d love to have you stop in for some delicious ice cream and say hi! You can also follow us on Facebook and TikTok.”
