When you hear the name Blattner, you most likely think of construction.
After all, Blattner has been building railroads, highways, bridges, dams, mines, and — most recently — wind and solar energy farms for 115 years. But that’s just the beginning of the story.
Blattner Company, which is the parent company of Blattner Energy and D.H. Blattner & Sons, has its corporate office in Avon, which is just west of St. Cloud on Interstate 94. Blattner Company provides professional services and support to Blattner Energy and D.H. Blattner & Sons. All three are members of the Quanta Services family of companies. Blattner was acquired by Quanta in 2021 and serves as an operating unit of Quanta.
Together, they form the nation’s industry leader in renewable energy and energy infrastructure. Blattner is a nationwide utility-scale engineering, procurement, and construction renewable energy service contractor behind some of the country’s largest, most complex wind and solar energy projects. That work is making a difference today and well into tomorrow to bring clean, reliable energy to our nation and help preserve the future of our planet. This is something the 4,000-plus employees of Blattner are proud of.
What Powers Blattner?
Blattner’s success is more than just business, it’s how it conducts business. Started by a small-town, Central Minnesota family, Blattner has an eye for change, a heart for good moral character, and a passion for people. The people in this area are hardworking and innovative. Central Minnesota is ripe for growth, opportunity, and positive influence. To Blattner, it is a great place to call home and thrive.
St. Cloud Shines fits in with Blattner’s values perfectly. St. Cloud Shines gives business owners the perfect platform to share their stories that are based on their passions and purpose. That’s why Blattner is a big supporter of Shines’ efforts in economic development, engaging leaders, expanding talent, promoting Central Minnesota, and advocating for businesses on behalf of their biggest needs.
Blattner is looking to develop world-class talent in its corporate offices in Avon, and in the field at projects throughout the country. Blattner is looking for professionals who are drawn to a strong culture and want to deliver solutions with excellence.
Blattner was named one of the Top 200 Workplaces in Minnesota by the Minneapolis Star Tribune in June 2022 and ranked in the top 10 in the large company category. The rankings were based on survey information taken from employees. It’s Blattner’s belief that its employees are the single greatest asset that it has as a company.
Blattner works to foster a culture that lives out its basics, values, and purpose by creating an environment where employees want to be.
Making A Difference In The Community
Blattner’s four C’s — Culture, Character, Community, and Clean Energy — embody and reflect its values and common purpose. Team members use the four Cs to build a better tomorrow through their work, especially in the community.
For example, in March 2022 employees in Avon, and at projects throughout the country, rallied together to raise more than $220,000 to help people in need as part of its annual food drive. Blattner’s corporate office’s donations added up to $158,000. The Blattner project field staff, located on wind and solar renewable energy construction sites throughout the country, collected cash donations of more than $62,000.
Blattner has conducted the annual food drive to serve food shelves across the country for 24 years. In that time, employees have contributed more than 1.4 million food and household items and more than $860,000. This year, Minnesota-based donations were presented to food shelves in Albany, Avon, Cold Spring, Hanover, Holdingford, and Melrose communities. The project site donations were given to food shelves, shelters, non-profit organizations, and people in need located near the projects.
Another great example of Blattner giving back to Central Minnesota came in January 2022. The Blattner Hockey Team joined forces with the Minnesota Warriors, an amateur hockey team made up of military veterans, for its largest fundraising event of the year. The 2022 Minnesota Warriors Showcase in Sartell was a huge success.
More than 40 local companies in Central Minnesota contributed monetary or in-kind donations to the event. Those donations — along with ticket revenue from the event — allowed Blattner to present a check of more than $24,000 to the Warriors.
In the field, Blattner teamed up with its client, ENGIE, on a major give-back effort with the Abbott (Texas) Independent School District close to the Sun Valley Solar project under construction. The donation included $21,400 for a new roof at Abbott High School, school supplies, and an opportunity for students to learn more about renewable energy projects and careers.
Blattner has quietly and steadily become one of the most important influencers of the renewable energy transformation in the United States because of their vision and fortitude. Blattner is dedicated to good business practices and constantly looking ahead for opportunities to affect and influence positive, real change.
